PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY

I love kids and the joy they bring us. I have always been of the opinion that they will certainly make a person more tolerant. I have seen pediatric patients on a daily basis since the year 2000 in a primarily pediatric office. I do not believe in restraining a child or the presence of parents in the operatory room. I believe that the correct parental guidance, first encounter approach, and child psychology will most of the time dictate a favorable outcome. Nitrous oxide sedation would also be a great asset for certain scenarios. If however the patient should prove unmanageable and uncooperative, then a pediatric dentist would be consulted. It is very important to introduce a child to a controlled office environment. Children will absorb their surroundings quite well. When one walks into a full waiting room, the feel, the smell, the experience preconditions the child to aberrancy. Are you maybe a person who has very bad childhood memories of dentists? Do you want that for your kids? Why not a better approach for the next generation? Why do you think most of us, including the dental community, will do whatever possible not to go to a dentist? Having good teeth is all about getting the right education from your practitioner. Having time for the patient is the prerequisite to education. Children are more delicate and less flexible than adults. And they need to be respected.
